Discovering Archaeology

Hi, I am Marshall, a final year Civil Engineering Student. I knew nothing about Archaeology before participating in this course. I felt excited to explore more on a new aspect. It is a very valuable chance for a city boy like me to stay in a peaceful and calm place like Urtsadzor for 3 weeks. We get to enjoy the fresh air, the fascinating sun rise and the local food every day.

For the excavation work, we began to work at 5:30am everyday. In the Trench, we need to utilize different tools to excavate the artifacts and special finds. Then, we would need to sieve the special finds out from the collected dirt. To be honest, it is a challenging and repetitive work, yet, once I learnt the importance of the excavation, it becomes meaningful and joyful. The artifacts and specific rocks help us to evaluate the lives in the past, the culture, the society. Moreover, we get to explore more the Caucasus region during the weekend, which really broadened my horizons.
