Sarah Hinkel
Sarah is interested in understanding the ceramic production sequence of ancient civilizations and how this relates to technological developments, technical diffusion, vessel function, and societal demand. She began studying pottery from the Vedi Fortress in her Ancient History honors thesis at Penn, entitled Finishing Touches: An Investigation of Early Iron Age Greywares from the Vedi Fortress, Armenia Through Surface Treatment Technology, which she plans to expand upon in her MPhil thesis to further investigate burnishing and decorations.
She also works on understanding the site’s fortification walls through 3D reconstruction, which she presented on at the Archaeological Institute of America’s 2025 meeting.
